Terror suspect used his position of trust as a bus driver to recruit young men to embrace an extremist ideology and to attend terrorist training in Canada and elsewhere.

27 September 2006: Qayyum Abdul JAMAL, 43 the eldest of the 18 terror suspects arrests on June 2 and 3, 2006 was denied bail Monday by a Brampton, Ontario Justice of the Peace. JAMAL is charged with three counts under Canada’s Anti Terrorism act. The group, 13 men and 8 minors, planned to bomb parliament buildings, take politicians hostage, behead the Canadian Prime Minister and demand both the withdrawal of Canadian forces from Afghanistan and the release of some Muslim prisoners in Canadian jails. The attacks were planned in Meadowvale and were to be launched from there, where JAMAL resides with his wife and four children. Police found explosives and other items stored inside several garages located in Meadowvale.JAMAL was employed as a bus driver for Laidlaw and handled the West Credit Route 1, where he transported students daily to and from West Credit Secondary School. According to witnesses, he used his position of trust as a bus driver to recruit young men to embrace an extremist ideology and to attend terrorist training in Canada and elsewhere. According to neighbors, he also solicited youths in the area where he lived.

JAMAL is a follower of Tanzeem-e-Islami (TJ), a radical Islamic organization based in Lahore, Pakistan in 1975 by Dr Israr Ahmed. Tanzeem-e-Islami (TJ) is closely associated with the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Muslim Youth of North America (MYNA).

Immediately following his arrest, JAMAL asked his wife, Cheryfa MacAulay Jamal, to get in contact with his “old mentor and teacher” Israr Ahmed, founder of Tanzeem-e-Islami (TJ) in Pakistan.

“The process of the revival of Islam in different parts of the world is real. A final show-down between the Muslim world and the non-Muslim world, which has been captured by the Jews, would soon take place. The Gulf war was just a rehearsal for the coming conflict.” –Israr AHMED, as stated at the annual convention of the ISNA held at Columbus, Ohio, on September 11, 1995.
