31 March 2007: Australian David Hicks was sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to terrorism charges, the U.S. Department of Defense said.

A panel of military officers recommended a maximum sentence for Hicks of seven years, which was reduced as part of a pre-trial agreement, the department said in a statement yesterday on its Web site. The sentence will be served in Australia as part of an agreement between the two countries, it said. ARTICLE [1]
