The UK terror plot might be only one part of a larger operation

Report by Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

13 August 2006: As the Northeast Intelligence Network has reported since the Islamic terrorist plot to down ten or more aircraft carrying US flags was announced early Thursday morning, the FBI is searching for terror operatives related to the UK based plot who are already present inside the United States and possibly Canada.

According to information confirmed on Saturday, the FBI, in conjunction with other federal agencies are actively searching for at least two, and perhaps as many as 10 individuals of Middle Eastern origin who are wanted for questioning for their possible connection to the recently uncovered plot as well as ”other possible terror attacks possibly coordinated with the downing of the aircrafts.” On August 10, 2006, we reported the following:

“The investigation reportedly involved suspects in at least two other European countries, as well as suspects or person of interest inside the U.S. and Canada. According to US intelligence sources close to the Northeast Intelligence Network, the investigation is expected to expand “well beyond the UK,” and described the threat to the US as “just the tip of the iceberg and very significant.”

Late last week, law enforcement sources confirmed to at least one media outlet that “[there are] new leads that involve a possible connection between people in the United States, in major east coast cities, and the London bomb plotters.” One intelligence official who spoke to the Northeast Intelligence Network on the condition of anonymity cautioned that the UK plane plot “is not likely to be the only event planned by the terrorists and might be part of a larger operation involving a series of events.” According to this federal source, some of those events appear to involve Middle Eastern males inside the US and Canada, “some who are acting as handlers and others who will actually carry out planned attacks.”

Consistent with this intelligence are the recent comments made by Congressman Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. He stated that “authorities are extremely concerned about the missing suspects.” He added that “they are on the loose. These are desperate, vicious people, who have a good degree of sophistication. And they’re out there, if nothing else, they’re available for future operations. The more deadly threat is that there is a plan B that they would be able to implement.”

The Northeast Intelligence Network is continuing to follow up on the possibility of terrorist attacks beyond the scope of the UK based terror plot.
