Ontario Muslim charged by RCMP anti-terror squad

19 November 2010: Matin Abdul STANIKYZ, 24, an Afghan national residing at A102 Deacon Street, Pemroke, Ontario, Canada was arrested on 18 November 2010 on charges of assault against a woman. Following an investigation, RCMP’s anti-terrorism squad filed four additional charges against him relating to the possession of or the attempt to possess an explosive substance and threatening to cause death, serious bodily harm and threatening to burn, destroy or damage personal property. According to court documents pertaining to the investigation, STANIKYZ allegedly attempted to possess explosives between July and August of this year. He also asked a woman to commit theft on his behalf. Developing.

UPDATE 3 December 2010: Ontario Muslim and Afghan national Matin Abdul STANIKYZ was denied bail by Pembroke Justice of the Peace Richard Sculthorpe. He remains in custody facing charges of assault, attempting to possess an explosive substance, counseling to commit theft, uttering a threat to cause death and threatening to burn, destroy or damage personal property.
