Authorities about Bombs Found at Arlington, Texas Hotel: “We Were Lucky”

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

UPDATED: 31 January 2006: The man who died in an Arlington hospital - ostensibly from natural caues - was identified by authorities as Richard Wayne FOWLER (a/k/a Richard DAVELYNN). Intial investigation conducted by the Northeast Intelligence Network indicates that FOWLER might originally be from Oklahoma (based on the issuance of his social security number), although most recently might have lived in the 19000 block of Preston Road, Dallas, Texas before moving to Arlington. Investigation found a number of different addresses, dates of birth and social security numbers associated with his name. Various reports list his age as 53.

Our investigation is continuing.

UPDATE 30 January 2006: Police and fire officials have identified the man who left two “fairly sophisticated explosive devices” at the InTown Suites extended stay hotel, 1727 Oak Village Boulevard, Arlington, Texas last week, but they are withholding public identification pending notification of relatives.

Reports detailed two cylindrical bombs, a duffel bag of ammunition and other items were found in the room of a man who died at an Arlington hospital earlier in the week. The management of the hotel notified police at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Friday and reported what they found inside the man’s room. Authorities described the bomb assembly as two cylinders “about 15 inches long, about 3 inches in diameter and connected to each other by 10 to 12 feet of wire. The bombs were filled with black powder, gunshot pellets and enough bullets to create a spray of shrapnel if exploded.”

Deputy Fire Marshal Darin Niederhaus told the media that “there is no evidence that the man was a terrorist,” adding that “the ingredients for the two bombs that were detonated are not difficult to find, but can be tricky to manipulate.” According to Niederhaus: “The purpose of this was to create as much havoc as possible, so that innocent bystanders are hurt.” “We were lucky.”

The Dead Suspect: Multiple ID’s

According to reports made public by the local police, the man arrived in Arlington, Texas about a month ago and obtained a job at a local business.. Most interestingly, however, the vehicle he was driving had Louisiana license plates, but the man had driver’s licenses from Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

The Northeast Intelligence Network is continuing to closely follow this matter.

Bombs Found in Dead Man’s Texas Hotel Room

28 January 2006: The Northeast Intelligence Network is investigating the strange circumstances surrounding the death of a yet-unidentified man who checked into the extended-stay InTown Suites on South Cooper Street (Note: address corrected in update) in Arlington, Texas last week and wound up dead in a local hospital. At some point following the man’s death, authorities entered his room to clear out his belongings and found one 14-inch long cylindrical object with plastic caps on each end and wires protruding from one end of the device. A remote control detonation device was also attached to what was later determined to be a bomb. A more extensive search found a second, similar device outside of the dead man’s room by the Fort Worth Bomb Squad.

At this point, authorities are continuing their investigation and are not releasing further details, including the identity of the man, his cause of death or other items found and removed from his room. The Northeast Intelligence Network investigators are continuing to investigate this matter and will provide additional details as they are developed.

Tip Responsible for Nashville Weapons Find

UPDATED: 31 January 2006: The traffic stop of a SUV occupied by a couple in their 20s and a 2 month-old child on I-40 in downtown Nashville yesterday was the result of a tip called in to authorities. As reported, officials found four weapons, including a Mac-10 semiautomatic pistol, a sawed-off shotgun, a revolver, an assault rifle, two bullet-proof vests and an explosive device inside of their vehicle. Authorities closed down a portion of the busy eight-lane Interstate yesterday while they detonated the explosives and removed the weapons.

The yet-unidentified suspects were alleged to have been selling weapons at J C Napier Homes – a public housing complex in the Hermitage precinct. Surveillance of the suspects conducted by authorities verified the tip, finding the vehicle to be in the public housing complex and engaged in activities consistent with the information provided about the sales of weapons.

The explosive device was ultimately determined to be an improvised artillery shell.

The Northeast Intelligence Network continues to investigate.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Vehicle Stop in Nashville Nets Cache of Weapons

30 January 2006: Police officials closed eight lanes of Interstate 24/40 in downtown Nashville, Tennessee today after stopping a sport utility vehicle and finding various firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun, an AK-47 and a package that was suspected as being an explosive. Body armor was also found inside the vehicle.

According to open-source reports, police stopped the vehicle at approximately 2:00 p.m. today for failure to signal a lane change. Upon finding the weapons inside the vehicle, police arrested an unidentified adult male and female and took a young child into protective custody. Their identities have not yet been released.

Police later detonated the suspicious device, and opened all lanes to traffic at 3:15 p.m. without further incident.

Armageddon and the Hojjatieh Sect of Shiite Islam

By Sean Osborne, Associate Director, Military Affairs Specialist

31 January 2006: A more complete understanding of the issues facing the United States, the EU and Israel, as well as other nations and organizations in the world (such as the UN Security Council and the IAEA) in dealing with Iran must be based upon a more complete assessment of the theological group which has achieved preeminence within the Islamic Republic of Iran. The current President of Iran, Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad has long been a member of this group, as is his close spiritual advisor Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi. The sect or belief system to which they belong is known as “Hojjatieh”.

Honesty in Analysis: The New al Zawahiri Message

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

“Bush, do you know where I am? I am among the Muslim masses.”

30 January 2006: Earlier today, al Jazeera Arabic Television broadcast two short segments of a taped message made by al Qaeda commander Ayman al Zawahiri, delivering a second message to the U.S. and Great Britain within an unprecedented ten day period. In the wake of the broadcast, professional and armchair analysts alike were abuzz, publicly advancing their own theories regarding the potential meaning of the latest message and wondering if, in fact, this message could indicate that attacks within and against the U.S. and Great Britain are imminent. At the same time, investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network were talking to an intelligence official who was already in possession of the transcribed statements. Considering that scenario, it would be reasonable to suspect that we would have the distinct advantage in obtaining an “official” analysis of the message – or at least an “off the record assessment” from this intelligence official who performs threat assessments for a living.

“Aside from the obvious, and I mean the obvious message of the statement, we simply don’t know the significance of the message in terms of timing or attack coordination,” stated this 15-year veteran intelligence official. If anyone suggests that they have special insight into the messages portending an attack with specificity such as time and location, then they know more than we do, and we know a lot.” His candor was refreshing amid a sea of theories that have proven to be inaccurate. “One thing I can say, though, is that [Ayman al] Zawahiri wants everyone to know he is alive, and al Qaeda and their terrorist offshoots are intent on launching another attack on our soil. He said in the message that ‘the war will be transferred to Bush’s soil.’ It certainly does not take an analyst to understand that,” he added.

Threat From Mexican Nationals Importing Explosives to San Francisco

29 January 2006: Somewhere between the official bureaucratic double-speak such as “no specific threat involved” and “doubts to the credibility of the threat,” exists the true nature of threats conveyed within various bulletins issued by agencies of the U.S. federal government. A news report published yesterday in the Ontario, California The Daily Bulletin, written by reporter Sara A. Carter, details the existence of a plot to smuggle high-grade plastic explosives into the U.S., an intelligence bulletin outlining the threat, and equally important, further addresses the issue of border security.

THE PLOT

Seattle Ferry Service Bomb Threat

On December 15, 2005, the Northeast Intelligence Network documented surveillance activities of the Washington State Ferry Service by Middle Eastern males in late November and noted of a heightened threat to the ferry service.

28 January 2006: Ferry service on the Seattle waterfront was shut down and evacuated Friday evening after one passenger aboard the ferry Kaleetan overheard another passenger talking about explosives just as the ship was preparing to leave for Bremerton at 6:45 p.m. The Washington State Patrol was notified and ordered the Colman Dock facility to be shut down, describing the incident as “a credible threat” against the Washington State Ferry System. All ferry service from Colman Dock was suspended, including boats to Bremerton and Bainbridge Island. Susan Harris, spokesperson for the Washington State Ferry System said passengers and cars were unloaded from the Kaleetan, adding that vehicles were being searched if the drivers decided to leave the terminal to drive across Puget Sound via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. A search of the ferry terminal and the ferry Kaleetan using bomb-sniffing dogs turned up no threatening items.

Bush: Take Threat from bin Laden Seriously

January 26, 2006: In a briefing at the National Security Agency Wednesday, President Bush stated that he takes the threats made by Osama bin Laden of another attack seriously, and urged Americans to do so as well. In an audiotape released by Osama bin Laden last week, he warned of impending attacks that were being planned within the United States. Speaking of the message, President Bush said that “the terrorists will do everything they can to strike us.

Anti-Israel, antagonistic agenda: it’s “Business as Usual” at Diablo Valley College

Investigative report by Lee Kaplan
leekaplan@homelandsecurityus.com

A Muslim cleric & former diplomat for Saddam Hussein teaches Middle East History at community college

26 January 2006: Readers who follow academic infiltration by subversives on our college campuses are most likely familiar with my previous article about my attendance at Imam Amer Araim’s class, Politics of the Middle East 155B, during the last spring semester at Diablo Valley College (DVC), as well as my meetings with with DVC’s President, Mark Edelstein, and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Alice Murillo, about the class content.

So what was the outcome of my investigative reports? Did Diablo Valley College decide to remove Araim from its list of part-time instructors for incompetence or for indoctrinating his students rather than educating them? Did they take responsibility for course curriculum taught by the imam or make corrections like they should?
Nope. DVC’s administration drew the wagons in a circle instead.

After my meeting with college President Mark Edelstein and giving him time to “investigate” the matter, and not receiving a promised response as to the disposition of Araim’s teaching courses, and repeatedly not having my phone calls returned, I called college Dean Lyn Krause to ask if Araim was still teaching Politics of the Middle East 155B. I was assured he was not. “The course catalog shows the course is not being offered this semester,” I was told. I assumed that Araim, a temporary part-time faculty member, had been removed. But the student who tipped me off to Araim’s teaching methods during a previous semester which spurred me to attend Araim’s course did a little checking and found Araim still on the schedule again for the Fall 2005 semester through Spring 2006, only now he was teaching three courses at DVC instead of just one. I called the Dean back.

In doing so, I was to learn how things really operate at Diablo Valley College.

26 January 2006: A convicted terrorist tied to the September 11, 2001 attacks and convicted in Spain of possession of weapons and explosives, and belonging to a terrorist group was released from prison last week. Najib Chaib Mohamed, serving only half of his eight-year sentence, was freed because the Supreme Court in Spain failed to resolve his appeal in time. He was one of 23 terrorists convicted in a trial in Spain.
