Mayor Miller micromanaging Toronto terror news?

“As armed police officers stood guard on the streets and around the building, Toronto Star photographers photographed their every move.”

By Judi McLeod, Editor, Canada Free Press & Doug Hagmann, Director, Northeast Intelligence Network

12 June 2006: Did a November election-bound Toronto Mayor David Miller and his handpicked Chief of Police Bill Blair give The Toronto Star its exclusive scoop on the historic police raid on 17 suspected terrorists, on June 2?

Sources tell Canada Free Press that many of the approximate 400 officers who participated in the raid felt “compromised” when they arrived at the Pickering police station to find Star staff on site.

When the roughly 400 police officers–who had to sign the Official Secrets Act pledging their total discretion- arrived to deliver the suspects to the Durham Regional Police Station in Pickering–Toronto Star reporters were already there. Because of a concern that some of the groups’ members had acquired explosives, the sensitive operation called for extreme caution. As a result, arrested suspects were driven one by one into the police station at Brock and Kingston Rds., and were taken into the underground garage for processing. Unmarked police cars lined up outside the door, with one car being allowed in approximately every 15 minutes.

As armed police officers stood guard on the streets and around the building, Toronto Star photographers photographed their every move.

Proof is the photos of the arrests and suspects posted to the Star’s Web site within minutes of a RCMP media release and the photos published in the Toronto Star’s Saturday edition.

The entire investigation, which predated the arrests by two years, was conducted in absolute secrecy. Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper did not know that the raid was to take place on Friday, June 2, nor says Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty did he.

But somebody spilled the beans that could have jeopardized the covert operation.

Toronto Mayor David Miller knew. In his own words, he was apprised of the incident as early as last January.

“Meanwhile, Toronto Mayor David Miller revealed that Police Chief Bill Blair had kept him informed of the terror plot since January.” (www.ctv.ca, June 3, 2006).

“I was extremely concerned about the potential existence of this organization,” Miller told the CBC.

“Asked if he knew when the group planned to attack, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair replied that he did without elaborating.” (Globe & Mail, Monday, June 5, 2006).

The result of Miller, his handpicked chief of police Bill Blair or a combination of both spoon-feeding the story to the Toronto Star is that coverage of the foiled terrorist attack was decidedly one-sided.

The happenstance of the Star getting the story to the exclusion of all other media outlets was not lost on the New York Times.

In a June 4 Time’s story by Ian Austen, the timing of The Star coverage was pinpointed.

…”Minutes after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued a cryptic press release at 9:16 p.m. about a news conference set for the following morning, The Star’s Web site produced a story breaking the news of the police sweep.

“Nor did The Star, Canada’s largest newspaper by circulation make any attempt at modesty,” Austen wrote. “Underneath a main headline in type several inches high, another headline boasted that “The Star takes you inside the spy game that led to last night’s dramatic arrests.” ”

Reporter Michelle Shepard who broke The Star story indicated that her information came from “sources” and “community sources”,

The Star’s competition was taken by surprise. Perhaps none more so that the tabloid Toronto Sun, which had earlier run a story claiming that Toronto’s subway network was on the terrorists’ target list. In spite of an abundance of American intelligence reports indicating otherwise, the only information about bomb targets officials offered one day after the raid was to refute the Sun’s claims.

“When asked how The Star managed to so outflank its competition, Stephen Meurice, the managing editor for news, replied, “I can’t possibly tell you.” (New York Times, June 4, 2006).

“The answer, said Giles Gherson, The Star’s editor in chief, was mainly hard work by a single reporter.”

That reporter was Michelle Shephard, a police reporter, assigned to cover national security issues.

Shephard was on Star staff when several years ago the daily newspaper ran a series of investigative stories accusing Toronto police of racial profiling.

The Toronto Police Union hired lawyer Tim Danson and sued The Star for libel. The case was later thrown out of court.

Animosity between Toronto Police and The Star, which continues to the present day, peaked when David Miller and his council declined to renew former Police Chief Julian Fantino contract, choosing Bill Blair as his replacement.

From the outset the liberal leading Toronto Star has reported on the terror suspects in a politically correct fashion. On Saturday, the suspects were described in a front-page story as being caught between two cultures.

If David Miller, criticized for not doing anything about Toronto’s increasing street crime in an election year is trying to micromanage the news by giving The Star exclusivity on last week’s police raid, the public should hold him accountable.

Nobody should be able to micromanage the news when the subject at hand is international terrorism.

Congressional Hearings to be Held in 1995 OKC Bombing

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director
director@homelandsecurityus.com

“We search for the truth. We seek justice. The courts require it. The victims cry for it. And God demands it.” –-The words of Oklahoma City Rescue Team 5 spray painted on the heavily damaged Murrah building, April 19, 1995

HOWEVER…

Congressman Leading Hearings on Middle Eastern “Payroll”

Critical intelligence documents that show a Middle Eastern connection have yet to be released

rtn11 June 2006: Think of the questionable ethics and corruption illustrated in the 1979 movie “And Justice For All,” apply that basic premise to the upcoming Congressional hearings investigating the Oklahoma City terrorist attack of 1995, and you will have a good idea how the hearings are going to play out. Somebody, with the vigor and passion of Al Pacino, needs to point out to Congressman Rohrabacher that he, and his entire subcommittee under which the hearings are to be conducted, is “out of order.”

It was announced last week that Representative Henry Hyde (R-Ill), has authorized hearings to determine whether there was any “foreign involvement” in the 1995 bombing. Hyde has given Rohrabacher’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House International Relations Committee the authority to conduct interviews and subpoena documents related to the April 19, 1995, terrorist attack that murdered 171 dead, 22 of them children (3 unborn), and injured over 800 more. Unfortunately, the victims and their families of the vicious 1995 terrorist attack will be victimized again, this time by the duplicity of those who will be involved in those hearings.

The Northeast Intelligence Network has provided extensive investigative coverage on the Oklahoma City Bombing. Additionally, after an extensive review of the open source investigative information published by various sources, it is the qualified opinion of the professional investigators who make up the Northeast Intelligence Network that the sole and most comprehensive authoritative investigative work about the April 19th, 1995 bombing is The Third Terrorist written by Jayna Davis. It methodically makes the case that Middle Eastern terrorists had an active role in the murder of 171 Americans in the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil to that date. Sadly, compelling evidence of Iran sponsorship of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing remains classified. It will not be released without your help.

weepIn an interview with Northeast Intelligence Network director Doug Hagmann today, Ms. Davis stated:

“I am forced to consider the possibility that Mr. Rohrabacher is attempting to shift the blame to neo-Nazis and federal authorities for bungling a last minute sting operation, in order to deflect attention from tangible, but incendiary evidence of foreign complicity.”

Her book exclusively features a classified prior warning that prognosticated in the spring of 1995 that an “Iran-sponsored Islamic attack” would likely take place on U.S. soil, executed by “domestic” operatives.

Eighteen months of intelligence gathering from multiple informants embedded throughout the Middle East led the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare to sound the silent alarm. On February 27, 1995, Task Force Director Yossef Bodansky alerted the FBI and multiple federal law enforcement agencies that an international terrorism offensive, sponsored by “Iran and Syria,” was imminent. Washington, D.C. topped the hit list. The primary targets were Congress and the White House, a chilling foreshadowing of the infernal events of 9-11.

After the bulletin was disseminated to authorities, increased security measures stymied the terrorists’ original strategy to strike the nation’s capitol, but did not diminish their resolve. A contingency plot immediately shifted the focus from Washington, D.C, taking direct aim at the American Midwest.

On March 3, 1995, the Task Force chief authored an updated warning that predicted the Islamists had recruited “two lily whites” to bomb an American federal building in the “heart of the U.S.” Twelve cities, including Oklahoma City, were placed on the list of likely targets because of the radical Islamic groups and terrorist networks operating within those metropolitan areas.

“I did get, and later confirmed by numerous sources, certain criteria on how to better identify potential terrorist targets, but by the time I mastered this ‘method,’ it was too late for Oklahoma City,” Mr. Bodansky somberly conceded in private correspondence to Jayna, reiterating that the Task Force lacked the specific information needed to stop the bomb.”

“However, going over and reconstructing relevant data, some of which arrived only after the bombing but had originated prior to the bombing, Oklahoma City was on the list of terrorist targets,” the Task Force director added.

Congressman Rohrabacher formerly served as the co-chairman and a member of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.

Said Ms. Davis:

“I propose that he declassify the Spring 1995 alerts that predicted, weeks before the zero hour of 9:02 A.M. on April 19, that Iran-sponsored Islamist terrorists had recruited “two lily whites” (i.e. McVeigh and Nichols) to carry out the bombing of an American federal building.”

Why did the Task Force Director believe that Iran was going to sponsor a terror strike within our borders weeks before the truck bomb detonated, killing 171 innocent Americans, and what was done with that information?

I believe that Mr. Rohrabacher needs to answer that question himself – and be accountable to the American people.

Terrorist Anthrax Redux?

By Sean Osborne, Associate Director, Senior Analyst, Military Affairs Analyst
sosborne@homelandsecurityus.com

10 June 2006: Last evening a couple of items concerning recent and long-term Islamic terrorist activities suddenly began to coalesce for me, fitting together like two matching pieces of a much larger puzzle.

On Thursday, June 8, 2006 a 24-foot box truck truck was reported stolen from the parking lot of Savol Bleach, 91 Prestige Park Circle, East Hartford, Connecticut. I received the following from an anonymous source:

Specific Vehicle Identification:

VIN# 1HTSDAAN6YH23237
CT Tag# 27585A
Blue letters on side “SAVOL BLEACH”
Glass found at the scene of the theft indicates the drivers-side window was broken out.
Box contents: chlorine.

Shortly thereafter, I received a similarly anonymous Be-On-Look-Out (BOLO) advisory issued by the East Hartford Police Department. The BOLO informed me that the cargo within the box actually consisted of 64 5-gallon drums and a single 165 gallon drum of HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION. Therefore, what was stolen amounted to 485 gallons of potential terrorist chemical mayhem in the northeastern United States.Allow me to reiterate, the inherent properties of hypochloite solution made it a threat in and of itself in Islamic terrorist possession. Especially in high-density public places. However, the obvious soon became manifest as I fully engaged my “think-like-a-terrorist” mindset, i.e.: How would terrorists effectively deploy such a large amount of this chemical substance?

Sure, they could mix it with some common household cleaners to make deadly chlorine gas. However, while effective deployment to a target-of-opportunity remained a solvable problem, it was a problem never-the-less.

I then began to investigate the other more common uses for hypochlorite solution. I soon discovered, much to my amazement, that hypochlorite solution is recommended by the U.S. CDC to clean the outside of ziplock baggies filled with bacillus anthracis (anthrax) in a laboratory or anthrax-present environment.

Source: http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/anthrax/environmental-sampling-apr2002.asp

I have known and kept fresh in my mind a few fascinating and not widely-known facts concerning a machine capable of producing weaponized anthrax which was published in July 2002 in the Weekly Standard by reporter David Tell. The report details how the $100,000 machine and its Pakistani purchaser, Syed Ather Abbas, disappeared from a false-flag jihadi operation in Ft. Lee, New Jersey during the spring of 2001; several months prior to the terrorist anthrax mailings in the fall of that year via from US Post Offices in Manhattan, NYC and Hamilton, New Jersey.

Source: http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/001/470lfsdb.asp?ZoomFont=YES

An excerpt from the above linked article:

“No, what the FBI discovered, instead, was that Syed Athar Abbas was an abruptly vanished fugitive who, using an alias, had recently arranged to pay $100,000 in cash”–roughly the amount he’d stolen from Wells Fargo and Fleet–for the purchase and shipment of a “fine-food particulate mixer,” a “sophisticated machine used commercially” to do various things you wouldn’t expect an outfit called “Computers Dot Com” to do. Like “mix chemicals,” for example.

Oh.

Mr. Parascandola reports that it’s been established Abbas did take possession of this machine at the “Computers Dot Com” offices in Fort Lee last summer, but had the thing “immediately transported elsewhere” before taking off himself for Pakistan. Federal investigators, Parascandola adds, “have not been able to locate the industrial food mixer” in question, which problem continues to be of some “concern.”

All the more so because, despite his guilty plea and promise of restitution to the banks he bilked, Abbas has “refused to cooperate with investigators trying to find out more about his accomplices or the mixer.”

Oh.

The $100,000 particulate mixer Parascandola describes, incidentally, is the exact same technology commonly employed by major food and pharmaceutical manufacturers to process fluid-form organic and inorganic compounds into powder: first to dry those compounds; next to grind the resulting mixture into tiny specks of dust, as small as a single micron in diameter; then to coat those dust specks with a chemical additive, if necessary, to maximize their motility or “floatiness”; and finally to aerate the stuff for end-use packaging. In other words, this is how you’d put Aunt Jemima pancake mix in its box. Or place concentrations of individual anthrax spores into letters addressed to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy.”

Based upon these to seemingly unrelated and time-displaced events, it is my current assessment that there might very well exist a high-volume terrorist anthrax production facility somewhere in the NYC-Boston, MA metropolitan corridor. In combining my long-held knowledge of Syed Athar Abbas’ missing weaponized anthrax production-capable machine with the very recent theft of 485 gallons of hypochlorite solution the obvious becomes inescapable to my mind.

It is conceded that this is just one of the possible terrorist uses for 485 gallons of hypochlorite solution. However, my hunch is that terrorist related production of weaponized anthrax is the primary use of the $100,000 machine and the underlying reason this specific truck was stolen. Sure beats having to purchase large amounts of Clorox and do all the required diluting and chemical mixing yourself, and to keep such islamic jihadi’s anthrax infection free.

UPDATE 25 September 25, 2006: Prompted by an inquiry from a producer for America’s Most Wanted television program, I embarked on a follow-up to this report. In telephone contact with Savol Bleach this afternoon I was informed by a female Savol employee that the truck cited in this report was recovered a few days after its reported theft and that the vehicle contents were intact. The employee added that this was “not very exciting in the end” - Sean Osborne.

Suspicious Cell Phone Purchases Continue at Disconcerting Rate

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

9 June 2006: Authorities in Brownsville, Texas are currently investigating suspicious cell phone purchases that took place at four separate Family Dollar Stores in the Brownsville, Texas area. According to police officials, at least two men of Middle Eastern descent suspiciously purchased a large number of untraceable prepaid cell phones at local stores, traveling to different stores to circumvent the two-phone-per-customer limit. The Middle Eastern men purchased at least twenty-(20) TracFone brand cellular telephones. Although legal, they are commonly used for criminal activity because they are nearly impossible to trace by law enforcement officials. While some might wonder about the seriousness of the purchases, these are the same type of phones that were used as detonation devices in the Madrid bombings. As we have been reporting in the HQ INTEL-ALERT Private Intelligence Report, the frequency of instructional postings on web sites frequented by Islamic terrorists involving the use of cell phones as detonators has steadily risen.

Regarding the Texas incident, the men of Arabic appearance were last seen at the Family Dollar store near the corner of Southmost Boulevard and La Villita Street. They were driving a dark blue Jeep Cherokee, registration unknown. Also in that case, the suspects reportedly left behind the telephone chips, chargers and packaging behind at one of the stores, allowing investigators to check for fingerprints and other evidence. The case has been turned over to the FBI for further investigation.

Investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network have been tracking this trend and can report a dramatic rise in the number of such occurrences over the last 36 months. A recent report listed numerous, specific purchases throughout the U.S. involving thousands of prepaid cellular telephone purchases being made by Middle Eastern males, or husband and wife couples.

”Pre-Incident Indicators” Cause “Quiet Concern” Among Intelligence Officials

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director
director@homelandsecurityus.com

9 June 2006: We have seen dual successes within the last week in the war against Islamic based terror - one involving domestic intelligence agencies breaking elements of an international terror cell based in Canada, and the other involving the acutely successful military operation that killed a top terrorist based in Iraq, Jordanian thug Abu Musab al Zarqawi. Despite these highly visible successes, some U.S. intelligence officials are privately expressing a great deal of concern over potentially imminent “terrorist events” that they feel are a very real possibility for the continental U.S. Investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network interviewed two officers assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) within the last 24-hours; one official is based in Boston and the other in New York. Neither officer could grant us permission to use their names for this interview, but both are well known to this agency. In the interview with the federal officer based in the Boston area late yesterday, he acknowledged that there are multiple, significant “pre-incident indicators” that are causing a great deal of concern among investigators. Although he declined to publicly cite the indicators, he said that some are consistent with those events that led up to the London train bombings. He acknowledged that investigations and surveillance operations are actively in progress across the U.S., some in conjunction with Canadian authorities.

A second official based in New York was equally concerned and somewhat more specific. “We are looking at the possibility of something taking place on our mass transit systems, and also have concerns about large crowd gatherings in confined areas.” He added that “despite what is being said publicly, there is specific information being acted upon in [numerous] locations inside the U.S. I just can’t get any more specific than that,” he added.

Abu Musab al Zarqawi Killed in Iraq by U.S. Military

By Randy Taylor, Contributing Analyst
rtaylor@homelandsecurityus.com

8 June 2006: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraqi terrorist leader noted for barbaric beheadings and inciting civil war in Iraq, was killed in a U.S. military strike north of Bukaba. Positive identification was confirmed by fingerprints and visual examination of his remains. His “spiritual advisor,” Abdurrahman ash-Shammari, was also killed.

Although this is a great job by the U.S. military and a good day for the Iraqi people, we must continue to remember that approximately 16-17 other terrorist/insurgent groups remain operational in Iraq. As word of Zarqawi’s death spreads, it is possible that attacks within Iraq could intensify the various groups under the umbrella of Zarqawi’s organization. With the terrorist-insurgent mentality, there will undoubtedly be a power vacuum that could result in a battle for leadership.

MSC, the umbrella organization headed by al-Zarqawi, will most likely nominate another leader or one will simply take over, but for now, they might be less than effective based on prior performance under Zarqawi’s command.

Zarqawi, with his “charismatic” leadership abilities had pulled many together under the MSC umbrella; as we have seen, however, many of the iraqi based groups have been steadily launching attacks under thier own banners. So while we welcome the news of Zarqawi’s demise, we must realize that the terrorist insurgency in iraq will continue.

Based on our most recent analysis, the following terrorist/insurgent groups remain active in Iraq:

 • MSC - the “umbrella organization” (or what remains following Zarqawi’s death)
 • Al-Qaeda in Iraq
 • Salahaldin Al-Ayoubi Brigades Military Wing of Jaami
 • Jaish al-Mujahideen
 • Iraqi Islamic National Resistance 1920 Revolution Brigades
 • Asaeb ahl al haq Brigades of Truth
 • Abu Baker al-Siddiq Brigades
 • Army of Ansar al_sunnah
 • Islamic Army of Iraq
 • Al-Jehadiya
 • al Rashedeen Army
 • Brigades of Abu al-Abbas
 • Brigades of Just Punishment
 • Conquering Army [Jaish al-Fatheen]
 • Brigades of Imam al-Hassan al-Basri Brigades
 • Imam Al Hussein Brigades
 • Iraq Liberation Army
 • Kataeb Al Moujadeen

Profile: Abu Mus’ab al Zarqawi

8 June 2006: FAST FACTS

Real Name: Ahmad Fadeel Nazal Khalayeh
Date of Birth: 20 October 1966
Place of Birth: Zarqa, Jordan
Education: On the streets of Zarqa, in Palestinian refugee camps, and in prison
Position: Leader of Tawhid wal Jihad (Monotheism and Holy War)

• His “nom de guerre” is simply homage to his home town of Zarqa, a poor town about half-an-hour’s drive from Amman.

• He was born to a father who was a retired Jordanian army officer. His father died in 1984. He spent his time scrapping and playing football in Zarqa’s dusty streets and surprised no one by dropping out of school aged 17. He drifted into casual crime as an enforcer and general-purpose thug.

• At some time, he was imprisoned for sexual assault.

• His homestead was a two-story concrete construction overlooking the chimneys of a city dubbed Jordan’s Detroit for its car industry (and its crime).

• His family belongs to the Beni Hassan tribe of Bedouin, a long-established Jordanian group that is usually loyal to Jordan’s ruling monarch.

• After marrying a maternal cousin, he suddenly moved to Afghanistan in 1989, where he ended up as a reporter of an Islamist newsletter, interviewing veterans of the war and listening to tales of Jihadist glory.

• While working in Peshawar, Zarqawi met Mohammed Maqdisi, a Jordanian preacher of the radical Salafist sect. It was then Zarqawi’s militancy began to evolve.

• He returned with Maqdisi to Jordan and they spoke out against the government and hoarded arms. Soon, they were in jail, with Zarqawi catching a 15-year sentence. (In a sweeping amnesty in 1999, he was released).

• Prison honed Zarqawi’s beliefs. He and Maqdisi became the focal point of Islamic inmates. Zarqawi fashioned blankets over his iron bunk bed to create a sort of ‘cave’ where he would read the Koran endlessly. He forbade other prisoners to read anything else. He had his un-Islamic tattoos removed (shedding the last reminders of his old street life).

• Zarqawi fled to Afghanistan and took his mother, believing the mountain air would be good for her leukemia. He entered the network of terror camps set up by bin Laden and hosted by the Taliban, but Zarqawi did not join al-Qaeda. Instead, he used their contacts and money to set up his own camp, near Herat, and his own organization called Tawhid wal Jihad (Monotheism and Holy War).

Canadian Terror Plot: Shooting at Crowd Planned

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

Previous Large Explosion Linked to Terror Plot; Toronto Stock Exchange Identified as “Primary Target”

7 June 2006: As reported by the Northeast Intelligence Network in various venues, one of the plans intended by the “alleged” terrorists was to “open fire (with semi-automatic and automatic weapons) on a crowd in a public place.” The conspirators were concentrating their efforts on their assigned missions and were in an advanced state of planning when arrested.

EXPLOSION LINKED TO TERROR PLOT

A recent, loud explosion detonated near Matheson, a town of about 3,000 people located about 600 km northwest of Toronto, was linked to the terror plot involving those arrested last weekend. The explosion was described as “massive” and heard and felt some 5 km away. Authorities would not comment on the details of the blast, although sources close to the Northeast Intelligence Network stated it was an explosion designed to test the bomb components (not those actually delivered).

According to official sources, the primary target for the explosive material was the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). Officials have told investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network that they are looking for “both more suspects and more munitions.”

Analysis of the Current Threat Situation

By Randy Taylor, Independent Analyst

6 June 2006: One thing that seems to be clear after watching the events unfold in the UK and even closer to home, Canada, is that terrorism against open democratic type societies will only increase as time goes on. The big question when we can expect another attack here in the United States? I submit the following to help answer that question.
