Nuclear Iran

By Sean Osborne, Associate Director, Senior Analyst, Military Affairs

26 August 2006: The news today about the official opening of the Iranian heavy-water nuclear production plant near Arak in central Iran is not really new news at all. A host of western governments and international scientific organizations have made this information known - as has the Iranian government itself- since at least 1998.

The revealed plans, design specifications and outright deceptions of the plants operating parameters made Iranian intentions even more unambiguous beginning in 2002 and continuing through 2003 and 2004. Now, in the middle of the third quarter of 2006, what has been suspected all along concerning the Iranian nuclear weapons program is a virtual fact.

And the world did nothing.

To place the bottom line of this Iranian capability in common terminology for all to understand — all by itself the 40 megawatt heavy water nuclear production plant near Arak is capable of an average yearly production of 10.75 kilograms of weapons grade plutonium each year. A theoretical upper prodction limit of this plant is on the order of 12.5 kilograms per year.

What this means to all of us is that Iran can produce enough plutonium for at least 2 to 3 weapons per year. Factor in other nuclear facilities and the capability increases.

Given the rhetoric and belligerence of the current Iranian regime, it is unconscionable that the world did nothing substantial to prevent this. In contrast, the west did everything in its power to keep Hitler from getting “the bomb”.

This time the world did nothing and the Ayatollah can make his bombs. This is a very sad day for global civilization.

Another plane, another group of Muslims

“Sadly, it is particularly obvious that many people continue to live their lives in a state of denial and blissful ignorance to the uncomfortable facts, choosing instead to wade in the cesspool of political correctness. From those people, Annie Jacobsen will never receive vindication, despite the abundant evidence to prove the nefarious activities of Islamic terrorists well beyond any reasonable doubt.”

24 August 2006: What a difference 2 years makes. Yesterday, a dozen men, 10 who appeared to be of Pakistani or Middle Eastern descent were handcuffed and taken off U.S. airliner Northwest Flight NO0042 in Amsterdam due to their suspicious behavior immediately following take-off. The pilot of the Bombay, India-bound Northwest Airlines flight turned the plane around over German air space and returned to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after passengers in the rear of the wide-bodied DC-10 observed the group of men trying to use cell phones, passing the phones to others, walking around the aircraft and engaging in what many passengers described as obviously significant suspicious behavior shortly after takeoff. “It was behavior that average passengers wouldn’t do,” said one official about the activities of the men.The aircraft was escorted back to the airport by jet fighters scrambled from a northern Dutch military air field and at this point, the investigation is continuing.

This is the latest in a series of incidents involving aircraft passengers - mostly men and all Islamic, either engaged in significantly suspicious behavior aboard US airplanes, or charged with planning to assemble and detonate bombs aboard aircrafts. Some of the plots involved the use of acetone based binary liquid explosives, some involved the use of cellular telephone components (and other electronics) as detonators, but ALL involved a group or groups of Islamic terrorists intent on destroying US airliners and killing innocent people. Today, few people are questioning or minimizing the threat or mocking the passengers who report such suspicious behavior.

Yet, it was only two short years ago on June 29, 2004 when Annie Jacobsen flew on Northwest Airlines flight #327 from Detroit to Los Angeles and reported the suspicious activities of 14 Middle Eastern men aboard that aircraft, not unlike those aboard yesterday’s flight. When Ms. Jacobsen reported her story, however, she was blasted by a wide range of people, from federal authorities to Internet Bloggers, who depicted her as paranoid, bigoted, and in other even less flattering terms.

Based on events involving suspicious behavior aboard US aircrafts since 9/11, especially those over the last 2-3 years, it is obvious that Ms. Jacobsen has been vindicated many times over. It is obvious that the threat to our airlines remain as serious today as they were on and before 9/11. It is obvious that Islamic terrorists are intent on targeting our aircrafts and killing as many innocent people as possible. It is also obvious that the Islamic terrorists are attempting to circumvent security by mixing cleverly disguised liquids, inert by themselves, on-board airplanes to create explosives, and using seemingly innocuous electronics (such as cellular phones, cameras, and other devices) to detonate the bombs.

Sadly, it is particularly obvious that many people continue to live their lives in a state of denial and blissful ignorance to the uncomfortable facts, choosing instead to wade in the cesspool of political correctness. From those people, Annie Jacobsen will never receive vindication, despite the abundant evidence to prove the nefarious activities of Islamic terrorists well beyond any reasonable doubt.

Writers like Patrick Smith of, who spent three pages and two years attacking Ms. Jacobsen for absurdly thinking that the activities of a group of Muslim men on flight 327 was anything but her hysterical utterances, continue to delude themselves for the sake of political correctness. More recently, the equally delusional writer Mark Benjamin, who chooses to believe that three Arab men caught with 1000 cell phones and photos of a bridge are nothing more than the victims of their tenacious entrepreneurial spirit, seems blind to the prolific amount of evidence to the contrary.

Both writers are only two of too many to mention who continue to suffer from cranial-rectal inversion in matters of terrorism and national security. After all, it’s just another plane and another group of misunderstood and unfairly profiled group of Muslims. And hey, nothing happened, did it? What more proof do we need?

Freedom to terrorize or freedom of speech?

“Look down in shame if you are on a plane and you feel fear if an Arab Muslim starts chanting these things and playing with his water bottle as he presses buttons on his cell phone. You paranoid, racist fool!” — Dr. Laurie Roth, Ph.D.

24 August 2006: We sure are polite as we continue to march toward our graves, and of course we saw the last few weeks the amazing commitment to that polite walk to our deaths by District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor who ruled that the National Security Agency’s wiretap program was unconstitutional and ordered it stopped. Of course the administration has plans to appeal the decision.  Never mind that the Brits used exactly those same tactics forbidden us by the very polite Judge here to stop the major attack on 6-10 international flights. This judge must be severally traumatized at the obscene abuse of power and denial of liberty by the Brits. Wouldn’t it be SO much more polite to have allowed those suspected of terrorism to walk and let 3-5000 flyers be blown into a million pieces? At least, no profiling would have been done or rude listening in on phone sessions. Think of the mental health torment the Brits have caused over there.

We currently have a nation that seems quite suicidal and horrified about doing what it might take to actually stay alive! According to Jihad Watch, up to 10% of the1.6 million Muslims in Britain see nothing wrong with terrorism against Britain such as the 7/7 train bombings. In addition, the vast majority of the mosques teach and display anti-Jewish sentiment and blame their problems on the west. Isn’t that lovely!

Let’s just listen to Judge Taylor and shut up about the dangers we face. I suggest with so many of us desiring to walk to our graves being so very polite that we just start handing out assignments to the terrorists as to which buildings to start blowing up. We shouldn’t be concerned at all if Arab Muslim males start chanting “death to America and death to Israel” as that is just freedom of speech. Look down in shame if you are on a plane and you feel fear if an Arab Muslim starts chanting these things and playing with his water bottle as he presses buttons on his cell phone. You paranoid, racist fool! Be polite as you go to your death. Saying something could cause emotional trauma to someone and you might accidentally profile him or her.

The true American response is to turn that fear into polite and therapeutic action. Call your flight attendant and turn in the 90 year old Granny next to you who is complaining about the cold coffee in her cup.

The rule of today is certainly making me feel as if I am in a very cheap B movie thriller. The enemy is to continue going on unnamed, unchallenged, unconfronted and continue their very important surveillance of our security systems, purchase of more lawyers and intimidation of the masses into confusion and silence.

Doesn’t our freedom of speech protect endless sermons about death to Israel and death to America? I recall the latest photos of some Muslims in London marching through the streets displaying placards saying, “Behead those who insult Islam, Europe is the cancer, Islam is the answer, Exterminate those who slander Islam and Islam will dominate the World, and Europe take some lessons from 9/11. Isn’t that all just creative freedom? That is precisely the kind of “freedom” that will lead us to our death if we aren’t careful.

The “controversy” surrounding bulk cellular telephone purchases

“One Picture is worth… a thousand pieces of shrapnel. The controversy over bulk cellular telephone purchases is disingenuous, deceitful and frankly, dishonest, especially during this time of war.” – Doug Hagmann

Special report by Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

24 August 2006: The recent series of arrests of Middle Eastern men involved in the purchase of prepaid cellular telephones is the apparent subject of debate. There are those who are insulting the sensibilities of the American public by desperately trying to explain the issue as nothing more than young men who are embracing the entrepreneurial American spirit – the very spirit that made this country great – by purchasing large quantities of cell phones and reselling them for a profit. Although there might well be an extremely small percentage of those engaged in that activity, this is NOT what has been and continues to be currently taking place across the country. By the US government’s own admission and based on our extensive collective research and investigation of this matter, cellular telephones that are purchased in bulk are generally used for two primary purposes:

1. The phones and their components are used to construct detonators for improvised explosive devices. One prime example of this can be found in the evidence collected at the scene of the bombings in London.

2. The phones are also used as “throw-aways” for untraceable communication between terrorist operatives.

The most insidious of the two purposes is obviously the first. Ample evidence has been found in Afghanistan and Iraq where the cellular telephones and their components have been used as detonation devices for improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In addition to the devices used for detonation of the London bombings, circuitry components were also found in the remains of the backpack worn by would-be Oklahoma University homicide bomber Joel Henry HINRICHS III, as were detailed instructions on his computer.

To be sure, the bulk cell phone purchases made by individuals who are intentionally caught circumventing the checks put in place to keep these situations from taking place happen to be Muslim men fitting a certain profile – in most cases, the same profile of those who killed 3,000 innocent people on September 11, 2001. Some say that we permitted ourselves to be sucker-punched on 9/11. Are we now allowing ourselves to be once again set up to take another hit simply to avoid allegations by such organizations as the ADC and CAIR that we are engaged in religious and racial profiling? It is important that such allegations are nothing more than a smokescreen and that this has nothing to do with religious or ethnic profiling, but it has EVERYTHING to do with CRIMINAL profiling.

When interviewed today on a cable news television station about his cell phone purchasing activities, a suspect recently arrested for terrorism related charges that were ultimately dropped, the suspect attempted to explain that he was involved in a legitimate business enterprise. The $10,000 in cash found in his vehicle was apparently his working capital. Perhaps his outspoken group of supporters, including his co-defendants, family, friends, and defense attorneys who are representing him on behalf of the ADC can and will produce evidence to support the legitimacy of their business at the appropriate time during a trial – if there is one. Perhaps they will produce the proper business licenses, including items such as Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) or articles of incorporation or LLC documents, and a legitimate set of financial ledgers to illustrate the lucrative nature of traveling across the country and purchasing prepaid telephones.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Intelligence Network can offer police departments and prosecuting agencies specific documents written by Arabic terrorists that have been posted to terrorist forums within the last 12 months. These Arabic language documents are detailed instructions describing the methods of using cellular telephones as timers and detonators for improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Note, however, that NONE of the documents explain how to purchase and resell the phones at a profit.

Pakistani woman stopped at WV airport - positive hits for explosives in carry-on

24 August 2006: It was Thursday, August 17, 2006 when Transportation Safety Administration scanners spotted several bottles of unknown liquids in the baggage of Rima QAYYUM, a 28 year-old Pakistani woman flying from Huntington, WV to visit her parents in Michigan. Two separate field tests found that two bottles tested positive for explosives. Further, trained dogs from the West Virginia State Police confirmed the explosive detection on the same bottles, forcing the evacuation of the Tri-State Airport for more than nine hours last week and caused one US Airways flight to be cancelled. Now, FBI spokesman Jeff Killeen is stating that the pair of once-suspicious plastic bottles in Rima QAYYUM’S luggage contained “soap and water,” an apparent necessity for what amounts to about 2 hours of flight time. Killeen added that there will be no further investigation into the incident. Apparently, Ms. QAYYUM, a former Cabell County substitute teacher, had not heard the news during the previous weeks that liquids were banned from flights due to the plot to blow-up numerous aircraft in flight.

Whenever Possible, Blame Racial Discrimination & Religious Intolerance

In the wake of the airport incident, Qayyum’s parents who live in Jackson, Michigan, accused U.S. authorities for discriminating against their daughter who is 4 months pregnant. QAYYUM, dressed in traditional Islamic headdress, “was stopped because of her ethnic roots.” Added her mother, Mian QAYYUM, “It was not only a false alarm, it was racial discrimination because there was nothing. They should clear her name and apologize on national TV.”

Mohamad Jamal DAOUDI, the Imam of the Islamic Association of West Virginia in Charleston, stated that he is “inclined to agree with QAYYUM’S mother Mian based on what he had heard of the incident. Stated the Imam, “Time proved that they were all wrong with that profiling, they just overreacted. Unfortunately, we are living in a situation of fear and panic. So yes, we are hurt, we are crying for our civil liberties. This is done with the justification of making America safer, but we are American, too.” Daoudi stated that the people in his community understood having to take security procedures, he is not sure that they are being applied fairly – more suspicion is cast over Muslims.

“My question is would this be applied with the same intensity if that young lady’s name was American? Or if she was a white American?” Daoudi said. “People keep the first impression, that she was a potential threat, a suspect,” Daoudi said. “She’s just an innocent young lady who happened to be caught at the wrong time in the wrong way.”

U.S. arrests provider of Hezbollah TV in New York

24 August 2006: Javed Iqbal, a.k.a. “John Iqbal,” 42, of Staten Island, N.Y., has been arrested and charged with conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), U.S. Attorney Michael J. Garcia of the Southern District of New York and Assistant Director in Charge Mark Mershon of the New York Office of the FBI announced today. Specifically, the complaint alleges that through a company called HDTV Ltd. located in Brooklyn, Iqbal and others provided customers in the New York area with satellite broadcasts of al Manar, which is a television station owned and/or operated by Hizballah.

The Department of Treasury named al Manar as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity in March 2006, thereby making it a crime to, among other things, engage in business transactions with al Manar. In conjunction with the arrest, agents executed search warrants at both HDTV’s Brooklyn office and Iqbal’s Staten Island residence where, it is alleged, Iqbal maintained several satellite dishes.

Iqbal was arrested Wednesday and will be presented today in Manhattan federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Gabriel W. Gorenstein, who will decide whether Iqbal is detained or released on bail pending further proceedings.

U.S. Attorney Garcia praised the efforts of the FBI’s Joint Terrorist Task Force in conducting the investigation.

The charges contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Miller is in charge of the prosecution.

Flammable Liquid Found Aboard U.S. Domestic Flight

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director & Judi McLeod, Founder & Editor,  Canada Free Press

23 August 2006: An investigation conducted jointly between investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network and Canada Free Press, acting on information provided by a well placed source within the airline industry, has found that the threat to our airlines – even those originating within the United States and Canada – does not appear to be over. The recently discovered UK based plot to detonate explosives on international flights into the US might have a greater reach and pose a greater threat than originally reported.

On Saturday, August 19, 2006, an alert member of a flight crew aboard United Airlines flight 94 from San Francisco(SFO) to Newark(EWR) made a rather startling discovery: a bottle of “Aquafina,” emptied and refilled with a yellowish liquid was placed in the galley of the aircraft, on a back counter near a coffee warmer. A subsequent inspection of the bottle and testing of the liquid by safety officials, including members of a Hazmat crew found that the bottle contained a “flammable, highly explosive liquid that has no legitimate commercial purpose.” Interviews with members of the flight crew reported that no one working that flight recalled seeing the refilled bottle until its discovery immediately prior to the aircraft’s descent.

According to the information provided to the Northeast Intelligence Network by a well-placed source and further confirmed through federal transportation officials speaking on the condition of anonymity, the bottle “did, in fact, contain a liquid explosive, and appeared to be deliberately placed near the coffee burner sometime right before the aircraft’s descent [into Newark].” Had the bottle tipped toward or onto the heat source, or been exposed to other possible effects from either the heat or landing, “it is feasible that the contents could have ignited or exploded.” An investigation conducted jointly between investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network and found that this incident was reported internally within the airline carrier’s safety board and is under active investigation, although so far, it has been successfully kept out of the media.

Based on this incident, flight crews have been instructed to “protect the integrity and security” of the galleys of the aircrafts, insure limited access to those areas by passengers, and to conduct periodic inspections of such areas before and during the flights.

Unexplained Pungent Odor Closes Airport Checkpoint, Sickens 19

“The incident happened hours before President Bush was scheduled to arrive at 2 p.m. at a National Guard base adjacent to the airport.”

23 August 2006: A security checkpoint at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was closed yesterday and 19 people – including Transportation Security Administration (TSA) personnel and one airline worker were taken to hospitals after screeners complained of irritating fumes that were described as “sweet and peppery.” At approximately 11:00 a.m., airport security screeners reported an odd odor that irritated the eyes, noses and throats of the individuals exposed, stated airport spokesman Pat Hogan. The 19 airport workers who were transported to the hospitals were described as conscious and alert at the time of their transport, and none appeared to be seriously injured. One traveler who was nearby was treated at the scene and released.

Although no serious injuries were reported and no flights were affected, the airport fire department and a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) teams were called, but neither could not find the origin of the odor.

Two Middle Eastern truck drivers acting suspicious & carrying radioactive cargo

Exclusive Field Report by Northeast Intelligence Network Investigator Doug Hagmann

22 August 2006: Around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2006, an alert employee working the fuel desk at the Travel America of America Truck Stop on Interstate 80 in Brookville, Pennsylvania noticed that several things were “wrong.” Two men, both of Middle Eastern origin, speaking Arabic and broken English and operating a tractor trailer, with the trailer bearing radioactive cargo placards, provided the travel center false information: fraudulent registration information and a false vehicle identification number.

While one of the men was at the fuel desk, the other purchased a heavy-duty lock used to secure the rear cargo door of the trailer from the general store within the travel center. The men were observed as one used bolt cutters to cut the existing lock from the cargo door, after which both men entered the trailer. After being inside for a short time, both men exited the trailer and secured the cargo door with the newly purchased lock.

The men then proceeded to travel west on I-80 through Pennsylvania and into Ohio where they were stopped by the Ohio Highway Patrol inside Ohio. The Northeast Intelligence Network continues to investigate the incident.

UK Conference Keynote Speaker Defines Islam

“Martyrs are those who stand up in defiance of George Bush and Tony Blair. You stand up to them and you say desist. Stop this injustice. Stop this oppression. We are Muslims in Europe, not European Muslims. Being fair and just means finding the middle path. The middle path is not rubbing shoulders with Tony Blair and George Bush. They say we are in difficult times. I tell you, we are in the best of times. We must just have confidence in ourselves. Just stand up and defend what is right.” -Dr Azzam Al-Tamimi, Director of the Institute of Islamic Political Thought, London, UK

Suicide-bomber hopeful Dr Azzam Al-Tamimi

21 August 2006: The fifth annual ExpoIslamia convention was held yesterday at the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, UK. The organizers of this year’s theme, “A Call to Humanity” described the principle aim of this event “to present Islam to Muslims and non Muslims in its most clearest and original form.” Secondly, the event will clarify the role and responsibility of Muslims living as minorities in the West… according to the website devoted to the event. Mission accomplished on both counts. A keynote speaker of this event, Dr Azzam Al-Tamimi, Director of the Institute of Islamic Political Thought in London, a supporter of the terrorist group HAMAS, and who stated that he would act as a suicide bomber “if the opportunity arose” told an audience of young British Muslims yesterday that they should “make sacrifices to defend their religion and Islamic nations.”

“Fighting those who invade … is a just cause,” he told a group of about 8,000 young British Muslims in attendance at the conference. Atated Al-Tamimi, “We are not terrorists. We are defenders of the truth and we have to offer sacrifices.” In a fiery speech, he stressed:

“The greatest act of martyrdom is standing up for what is true and just. Martyrs are those who stand up and stand up in defiance of George Bush and Tony Blair. Just stand up and defend what is right.”

The crowd of young Muslim men erupted with cheering and applause when he said that Israel had been defeated by Hezbollah, and added that “Hamas is making sacrifices for you. We tell this government Hamas is not a terrorist group. It is elected by the people of Palestine. We are not terrorists. We are defenders of the truth. Fighting those who invade Muslims is a just cause. The government is trying to turn the war on terror into the war on Islam.”

The day-long convention featured a number of high profile Muslim speakers, including the secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari and former Sunday Express journalist, Yvonne Ridley, a Muslim convert who recently upset Jewish groups with her comments on Israel.
