Baghdad ‘Green Zone’: WMD Strike Imminent?

by Sean Osborne, Military Affairs Specialist

27 September 2006: According to an advisory I recieved this morning from retired AFOSI agent Paul ‘Dave’ Gaubatz:

“Iraqi citizens have reported our U.S. Troops & Coalition Forces will be the intended target of a major chemical/biological attack in the “Green Zone” 10 - 14 days from the November, 2006 U.S. Elections.”

With the US election occuring on November 7, the stated ‘window’ of this of this WMD strike coincides precisely with the day following the end of Ramadan 2006 (24 October 2006) and the four subsequent days thereafter (25-28 October 2006).

Dave also stated in an email that the Iraqi citizens passing this information to him are known to him personally and that some are members of the Iraqi government. Others are US businessmen in Iraq or with their own contacts in the country. Additional updates will be provided as they are received.

Pakistani man sentenced to 18 years in prison in drugs-for-missiles plot

Last of three plotters to be sentenced in US Federal Court

26 September 2006: The last of three men in a drugs for missiles plot was sentenced in federal court in San Diego Monday to 18 years in prison. Syed Mustajab SHAH, 55, pleaded guilty last March in federal court to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and hashish. Shah, along with Ilyas ALI of St. Paul, Minnesota., a naturalized U.S. citizen born in India, and Muhamed Abid AFRIDI, 32, plotted to obtain and sell Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to the Taliban and al-Qaeda.SHAH admitted that he tried to sell five tons of hashish and a half-ton of heroin in exchange for cash and four shoulder-fired Stinger missiles, which he, ALI and AFRIDI intended to sell to Islamic terrorists. Such missiles could be used to shoot down airplanes, including commercial jets, flying at low altitudes.

ALI was sentenced in April to more than five years in prison for his role in the plot, while AFRIDI received a slightly lesser sentence. The three men were arrested on September 20, 2002, by police in Hong Kong who received a tip from the FBI. They were covertly videotaped in meetings days earlier with undercover FBI agents at a Hong Kong hotel. ALI also met with an undercover agent in San Diego in April 2002.

7-11 Boots CITGO after 20-year contract

26 September 2006: Bud Hedinger of WFLA AM 540 in Orlando, Florida has obtained a copy of a letter from Janey Carpenter, Manager of Consumer Affairs that states 7-11 Stores are ending their 20-year supply agreement with CITGO Petroleum Corp. According to Carpenter, the contract ends next week and 7-11 is now making the switch to its own branded gasoline. Details here. According to Citgo’s website, the company is “owned by PDV America Inc., an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Petrleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

Note from NEIN staff: The only true answer is to become less dependent on foreign oil supplies and begin drilling in the US until we find a viable and alternative fuel source. Otherwise, we are simply moving our funding from one terrorist-led country to another.

Anthrax possibilites lack media interest

By Sean Osborne, Associate Director, Senior Analyst, Military Affairs Analyst

10 June 2006: Last evening a couple of items concerning recent and long-term Islamic terrorist activities suddenly began to coalesce for me, fitting together like two matching pieces of a much larger puzzle.

On Thursday, June 8, 2006 a 24-foot box truck truck was reported stolen from the parking lot of Savol Bleach, 91 Prestige Park Circle, East Hartford, Connecticut. I received the following from an anonymous source:

Specific Vehicle Identification:

VIN# 1HTSDAAN6YH23237
CT Tag# 27585A
Blue letters on side “SAVOL BLEACH”
Glass found at the scene of the theft indicates the drivers-side window was broken out.
Box contents: chlorine.

Shortly thereafter, I received a similarly anonymous Be-On-Look-Out (BOLO) advisory issued by the East Hartford Police Department. The BOLO informed me that the cargo within the box actually consisted of 64 5-gallon drums and a single 165 gallon drum of HYPOCHLORITE SOLUTION. Therefore, what was stolen amounted to 485 gallons of potential terrorist chemical mayhem in the northeastern United States.Allow me to reiterate, the inherent properties of hypochloite solution made it a threat in and of itself in Islamic terrorist possession. Especially in high-density public places. However, the obvious soon became manifest as I fully engaged my “think-like-a-terrorist” mindset, i.e.: How would terrorists effectively deploy such a large amount of this chemical substance?

Sure, they could mix it with some common household cleaners to make deadly chlorine gas. However, while effective deployment to a target-of-opportunity remained a solvable problem, it was a problem never-the-less.

I then began to investigate the other more common uses for hypochlorite solution. I soon discovered, much to my amazement, that hypochlorite solution is recommended by the U.S. CDC to clean the outside of ziplock baggies filled with bacillus anthracis (anthrax) in a laboratory or anthrax-present environment.

I have known and kept fresh in my mind a few fascinating and not widely-known facts concerning a machine capable of producing weaponized anthrax which was published in July 2002 in the Weekly Standard by reporter David Tell. The report details how the $100,000 machine and its Pakistani purchaser, Syed Ather Abbas, disappeared from a false-flag jihadi operation in Ft. Lee, New Jersey during the spring of 2001; several months prior to the terrorist anthrax mailings in the fall of that year via from US Post Offices in Manhattan, NYC and Hamilton, New Jersey.

An excerpt from the above linked article:

“No, what the FBI discovered, instead, was that Syed Athar Abbas was an abruptly vanished fugitive who, using an alias, had recently arranged to pay $100,000 in cash”–roughly the amount he’d stolen from Wells Fargo and Fleet–for the purchase and shipment of a “fine-food particulate mixer,” a “sophisticated machine used commercially” to do various things you wouldn’t expect an outfit called “Computers Dot Com” to do. Like “mix chemicals,” for example.

Oh.

Mr. Parascandola reports that it’s been established Abbas did take possession of this machine at the “Computers Dot Com” offices in Fort Lee last summer, but had the thing “immediately transported elsewhere” before taking off himself for Pakistan. Federal investigators, Parascandola adds, “have not been able to locate the industrial food mixer” in question, which problem continues to be of some “concern.”

All the more so because, despite his guilty plea and promise of restitution to the banks he bilked, Abbas has “refused to cooperate with investigators trying to find out more about his accomplices or the mixer.”

Oh.

The $100,000 particulate mixer Parascandola describes, incidentally, is the exact same technology commonly employed by major food and pharmaceutical manufacturers to process fluid-form organic and inorganic compounds into powder: first to dry those compounds; next to grind the resulting mixture into tiny specks of dust, as small as a single micron in diameter; then to coat those dust specks with a chemical additive, if necessary, to maximize their motility or “floatiness”; and finally to aerate the stuff for end-use packaging. In other words, this is how you’d put Aunt Jemima pancake mix in its box. Or place concentrations of individual anthrax spores into letters addressed to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy.”

Based upon these to seemingly unrelated and time-displaced events, it is my current assessment that there might very well exist a high-volume terrorist anthrax production facility somewhere in the NYC-Boston, MA metropolitan corridor. In combining my long-held knowledge of Syed Athar Abbas’ missing weaponized anthrax production-capable machine with the very recent theft of 485 gallons of hypochlorite solution the obvious becomes inescapable to my mind.

It is conceded that this is just one of the possible terrorist uses for 485 gallons of hypochlorite solution. However, my hunch is that terrorist related production of weaponized anthrax is the primary use of the $100,000 machine and the underlying reason this specific truck was stolen. Sure beats having to purchase large amounts of Clorox and do all the required diluting and chemical mixing yourself, and to keep such islamic jihadi’s anthrax infection free.

UPDATE 25 September 25, 2006: Prompted by an inquiry from a producer for America’s Most Wanted television program, I embarked on a follow-up to this report. In telephone contact with Savol Bleach this afternoon I was informed by a female Savol employee that the truck cited in this report was recovered a few days after its reported theft and that the vehicle contents were intact. The employee added that this was “not very exciting in the end” - Sean Osborne.

Top al Qaeda terrorist killed in Iraq

25 September 2006: In a pre-dawn raid conducted by 250 British troops on his home in Basra today, top al Qaeda terrorist Omar al-Farouq was killed after he opened fire on British forces who were attempting to arrest him. Omar al-Farouq, (a/k/a Mahmoud Ahmad Mohammed Ahmad), gained notoriety for being one of four detainees who escaped from a high-security detention center in Bagram, Afghanistan in July 2005 and taunted US and coalition forces by appearing in a video on an Islamist website and on Al-Arabiya television. Al-Faoruq was the main link between al-Qaeda and South East Asia’s Jemaah Islamiah (JI) terrorist group, the organization responsible for deadly bombings in Indonesia. He was known to be an expert in bomb making, and plotted to stage car and truck bombings at US embassies across southeast Asia on or near the first anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The attacks were thwarted due to his capture.

According to intelligence officials, al-Farouq entered Iraq three months ago and went by the name Mahmoud Ahmed while in Basra. Al-Farouq, or Mohammed Ahmad, was born in Iraq in 1969. He carried an Iraqi passport with the number 0547547/535 under the name Mahmoud Ahmad Mohammed Ahmad.

Based on information from U.S. intelligence officials, al Farouq provided “specific and credible” information about plots to attack the U.S. following his arrest in Indonesia in 2002.

Al-Farouq was recruited into al-Qaeda in the early 1990’s and attended the Khaldan training camp in Afghanistan from 1992 and 1995. In 1995, he was sent to the Philippines, originally to enroll in a flight school for a future suicide mission, but he failed to gain entry. Instead, he attended a terrorist training camp in Mindanao, where he trained in jungle warfare tactics along with other members of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist group. He then traveled to Indonesia, where in 2000 he set up paramilitary training camps. While there, al Farouq was reportedly planning a series of attacks on U.S. embassies and other Western interests throughout Southeast Asia. He was captured by Indonesian security officials south of Jakarta in 2002, and was turned over to the United States where he was eventually transferred to Bagram.

Indianapolis man arrested – had al-Qaeda literature, chemicals in apartment

23 September 2006: An Indianapolis man was arrested after police found a significant amount of hazardous chemicals, along with a gas mask and printed bomb making instructions. Also found were al-Qaeda documents and literature about Saddam Hussein, stated Captain Phil Burton of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect, identified as Joseph BAGLEY, admitted to mixing several chemicals in his northside apartment near 96th and College streets and using a gas mask while doing so.BAGLEY is being held on one count of criminal recklessness for having the hazardous chemicals in his apartment. Bagley, a former electronics student with no criminal past, is currently being held in jail for 72 hours while police and the FBI inspect his computer and various storage media taken from his apartment. According to published reports, the discovery of materials and documents was discovered by a carpet cleaning crew who notified police.
bagley Arrested: Joseph BAGLEY

Meanwhile, the FBI told the local media that they “do not suspect a terror plot” on the city’s northside, but police want to know why a man stored and mixed chemicals in his apartment and had al-Qaeda literature.

Professor Douglad Woodwell of the University of Indianapolis told the media that: “This doesn’t sound like any kind of international criminal conspiracy, it sounds like a lone operation involving one person. There is definitely an inspiration al-Qaeda offers to a lot of people around the world these days. They can perhaps play their own role in an epic battle.” Professor Woodwell also stated that [BAGLEY] “could very well be a guy who just likes mixing chemicals.”

Disneyland Hong Kong suggested target by Internet posting; man arrested

23 September 2006: Police in Hong Kong arrested a 21-year-old man and seized two computers from his residence on Thursday for threatening to bomb Disneyland Hong-Kong, according to published news sources. The man posted a message in an Internet chat room, first asking how to make an explosive device and then writing that he intended to bomb the Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong. Police charged the man with “allegedly attempting to make an explosive with the intent to cause injury and damage.” The unidentified man was arrested following an investigation of the Internet messages; he has been released on bail pending a hearing.

Abu al-Masri, al Qaeda leader in Iraq appears in video

23 September 2006: A video of Abu Ayyoub al-Masri , (a/k/a Abu Hamza al-Muhajer ) the new leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq has been posted on the Internet, showing him brutally executing a Turkish hostage. al-Masri is the successor of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who was killed on June 7 as a result of a US air strike. In what is believed to be the terrorist’s Internet video debut, a masked Abu Ayyoub al-Masri is shown standing behind a blindfolded Turkish hostage reading a statement that criticizes companies and people that cooperate with the U-S military. Flanked by two other masked terrorists, al-Masri shoots the hostage three times in the head at the conclusion of his statement. A review of the undated video suggests that although it was just posted, it does not appear to have been recently made.

Top Terror Leader, 2 Aides, Captured in Iraq

23 September 2006: Muntasir al-Jibouri, leader of the Iraq-based terrorist group Ansar al-Sunna (Supporters of Sunni Islam), and two of his top aides were captured in the town of Muqdadiya, about 50 miles northeast of Baghdad in Diyala province.

Ansar al-Sunna, one of the largest terrorist organizations in Iraq with a significant presence in Europe, is an outgrowth of the terror group Ansar al-Islam [Defenders of Islam], a group with ties to Iran and linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq. They have claimed responsibility for numerous attacks including car bombings and beheadings.

A Constitutional Crisis due to Congressional Candidate?

It must be considered that should congressional candidate Keith Ellison be elected to his position within the United States congress, he will be forced by the tenets of his religion to either abandon his beliefs or subjugate the laws of the US constitution to Islamic (Sharia) law. If he chooses the former, he will be choosing apostasy, which in accordance with his religion, warrants the death penalty. He simply cannot have it both ways.–Douglas J. Hagmann

23 September 2006: Keith Ellison recently won the DFL primary in the Fifth Congressional District of Minnesota that encompasses Minneapolis and its near suburbs, and could be on his way to winning a seat in the United States Congress. Keith Ellison is also a Muslim.

cong5ellison1

As part of his political platform, Mr. Ellison is calling for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and the impeachment of President Bush. Although he has every right to do so under US law, one must ask that if he is elected, will he serve his constituents in conformance with the constitution of the United States, or will he make decisions for the country as a result of the political doctrine imposed by his religion? An important aspect of our democratic society is the separation of church and state, which is the antithesis of orthodox Islam. Under Islam, there is no separation between church and state; Allah is the sole author of the law and it is up to the state to implement the laws of Allah. One only has to look at any country ruled by a Muslim government: the type of government is either dictatorial or autocratic. A true Muslim stipulates that the Qu’ran is the constitution. I doubt that when our forefathers drafted article 6 of the US constitution, they anticipated the dynamics of the events taking place in America today. Article 6 states, in part, that “no religious test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” That is, of course, as it should be, unless one understands that orthodox Islam is unique to all other religions as it strictly imposes its own legal system upon its followers – Islamic jurisprudence via the Qu’ran and the Hadith above all other forms of governance. In other words, an orthodox Muslim is required, through the tenants of the Islamic faith, to subjugate all forms of government to the doctrine of Islam as outlined in the Qu’ran and Hadith. The consequences for failing to do so are severe and outlined in those very texts.

Having established, then, that a true follower of Islam is required to make decisions based not on constitutional law but on the basis of Sharia, one must ask whether a Muslim can be a suitable candidate for a political office in the US by virtue of this fact alone.

When America was in the midst of the darkest days of WWII, what might have happened if a candidate for a congressional seat stated that his primary allegiance was to the Nazi party? For the purpose of brevity, I must presume that the reader is familiar with accurate historical facts pertaining to the National Socialist German Workers Party and the role of the US in WWII, and would stipulate that no true American would have tolerated any such candidacy while our troops were fighting the spread of the Third Reich and dying in the European theater of operation. While Hitler extended the dogma of the Nazi party from a political ideology to a quasi-religious doctrine, we must look at Islam for what it is: a religion that extends its doctrine into a comprehensive political ideology and culture through Sharia. Today, our troops are fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan in part to preserve our democratic society and to stop the spread of Islamic fascism and terrorism. During WWII, by comparison, we fought to stop the spread of the fascism of Nazi Germany.

While doing so, it would have been unthinkable that a member of the Nazi party could potentially gain a congressional seat while the blood of American troops was being shed to stop the very ideology from taking over our country. Yet today, because people fail to understand the political ideology that is part and parcel to the religious aspect of Islam, it is possible that we could have a member of congress casting votes and steering the country based on the same ideology we have been actively fighting for the last five years, all while being legally protected by our own constitution.

Robert Spencer is the director of Jihad Watch, an Adjunct Fellow with the Free Congress Foundation, the author of four books on Islam, and a man I greatly admire. In an article he wrote yesterday about a separate matter, Mr. Spencer clearly stated that the implementation of Sharia – even here in the US – is a goal of those we are currently fighting and also draws a parallel to the WWII era:

“Imagine if there had been a group in the U.S. in 1940 that declared that it wanted to see a National Socialist America, but intended to accomplish our Nazification through education, not violence. What would authorities of the day have thought of such a group? What might they have done about it? Ah, you will say, but Sharia isn’t Nazism. Of course it isn’t. But it is nevertheless inimical to Western values and Western civilization, and harmful to all non-Muslims, in a host of ways. And it is Sharia that is the goal of those we fight. The manner in which they are advancing it is simply a question of their tactics, not of whether or not they are enemies of our way of life.”

It has long been established that the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), through its spokesman Ibrahim Hooper has expressed a desire to see the U.S. become an Islamic state. In that same article, Mr. Spencer suggests that this goal can be achieved by means other than the use of bombs and terrorism, and states:

“So evidently the attempt to accomplish by peaceful means what Osama bin Laden wants to do by violent means is perfectly fine. Only the means matter, not the end. It’s perfectly all right if we all end up living under Sharia, with its institutionalized discrimination against women and non-Muslims, as long as nobody gets hurt on our road to Islamization.”

He simply cannot have it both ways.

If elected, what about the oath of office required by the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, and as provided by section 2 of the act of May 13, 1884 (23 Stat. 22), that is administered to Members, Resident Commissioner, and Delegates of the House of Representatives, the text of which is carried in 5 U.S.C. 3331:

“I, (Name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

And if not Keith Ellison, what about the next Muslim candidate? Regardless of the candidate’s name or district, is it not a conflict of interest at the very least, or more appropriately a constitutional crisis when our laws permit the implementation of Sharia due to our perilous lack of understanding of orthodox Islam?

Who is Keith Ellison?

Constitutional issues aside, who is Keith Ellison? Ellison is a Detroit native who grew up in a Catholic household before converting to Islam as a 19-year-old student at Wayne State University, known for its black activism. Ellison has expressed support Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan for at least a decade. In 1995, he was a Minnesota organizer for the Million Man March, which the Nation of Islam convened. In 1997, Ellison publicly supported the executive director of the Minneapolis Initiative Against Racism when she allegedly called Jews “among the most racist white people.” The Star Tribune described Ellison as a “representative” of the Nation of Islam in an article about the incident. In 1998, when Ellison made his first run for the Minnesota House of Representatives, the paper described him as “well-known in the black community as … a supporter of Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.”
