Mideast Military Chief Resigns

11 March 2008: Adm. William J. Fallon, the Navy admiral in charge of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, announced his resignation today amid reports that he was “at odds” with the current administration’s position on Iran. Fallon, the subject of an article published last week in Esquire magazine, was described in that article as “a lone voice” against taking military action to stop the Iranian nuclear program. Fallon was also a voice in favor of a more rapid troop pullout from Iraq.
