Abu al-Masri, al Qaeda leader in Iraq appears in video

23 September 2006: A video of Abu Ayyoub al-Masri , (a/k/a Abu Hamza al-Muhajer ) the new leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq has been posted on the Internet, showing him brutally executing a Turkish hostage. al-Masri is the successor of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who was killed on June 7 as a result of a US air strike. In what is believed to be the terrorist’s Internet video debut, a masked Abu Ayyoub al-Masri is shown standing behind a blindfolded Turkish hostage reading a statement that criticizes companies and people that cooperate with the U-S military. Flanked by two other masked terrorists, al-Masri shoots the hostage three times in the head at the conclusion of his statement. A review of the undated video suggests that although it was just posted, it does not appear to have been recently made.
