Iran mosque blast blamed on US, Israel

30 May 2009:A bomb blast on Thursday during evening prayers at the Ali ibn Abi Taleb mosque in Zahedan, a city near the Pakistan border, reportedly killed at least 25 and injured another 187, according to Iranian news reports. Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, Tehran’s interim Friday prayers leader, blamed the United States and Israel for the “cowardly terrorist attack,” stating that the bombing was “carried out by the ‘evil Salafists” but the U.S. and Israel ‘undoubtedly’ masterminded the incident” to undermine Iran’s upcoming presidential election.
