Maryland School, Day Care Center & Church Evacuated: Suspicious Package

3 February 2006; 3:40 p.m: Montgomery County police evacuated an elementary school, day care center and church in Gaithersburg, Maryland at about 12:30 p.m. this afternoon as bomb squad officers use a robot to investigate a suspicious device found across the street from the school. According to reports from the scene, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer says they believe the package is an improvised explosive device. The suspicious package was discovered in a park in the middle of Kent Island Circle, across from the Rachel Carson Elementary School. Students from the school have been taken to the nearby Quince Orchard High School as a precaution, according to officials at the scene. (Developing).
