Latest bin Laden message strains credulity

By Kate Evans-Taylor, Analyst

26 March 2010: Yesterday, al Jazeera released a 74-second audio message purportedly of Osama bin Laden that threatens to kill any Americans captured by al Qaeda if the U.S. executes Khalid Sheikh Mohammed or other al Qaeda suspects currently in U.S. custody.  News reports state that the latest message is being reviewed by U.S. officials to determine whether it is, in fact, the voice of Osama bin Laden. I believe I can speak with some experience that U.S. intelligence officials will authenticate the message, while intelligence officials in the UK and other European countries continue to privately dismiss such authentications.

I’ve worked with intelligence officials in Great Britain who have analyzed numerous messages allegedly made by Osama bin Laden since December 2001. Not one of these officials would sign off on authenticating any message beyond late 2001. It is a fact that most believe the messages have been digitally manipulated using old analogue audio, or quite simply not the voice of Osama bin Laden at all. In more than one case, the fabrications were quite obvious before they were subjected to spectrographic analysis. Using samples from audio segments verified to be the voice of bin Laden from 2001 as exemplars or the baseline for comparison, not one of the last 20 audio messages matches the “real” bin Laden, according to information I received today from a well-placed UK intelligence official.

This analysis was further explained by Douglas Hagmann, Director of the Northeast Intelligence Network during his appearance Thursday on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. Mr. Hagmann explained that a comparative analysis of dialects, speech patterns, pronunciation, voice tone and inflection, accent, and a host of other specific speech characteristics simply do not match the exemplars.  Again, my former intelligence colleagues in the UK agree.

The obvious questions then become: who is or are behind the release of these messages, and what is their intent? Why are all the messages publicly authenticated by U.S. intelligence all of the time? It is interesting to note that the timing of these messages have been politically expedient since 9/11. Is it possible, perhaps that the release of such message, including Thursday’s, could be attempts to manipulate public opinion or administrative policy?

The latest message that al Qaeda will institute “equal treatment” to Americans they capture is ludicrous. Look at the “treatment” British citizen Kenneth Bigley or Daniel Pearl received. They were both brutally beheaded by al Qaeda terrorists. What more needs to be said?

Letter from Osama bin Laden’s son to Iran Ayatollah

15 March 2010: The Global Islamic Media Front published a letter at 9:00 PM ET Sunday that was ostensibly written by Sheikh Khalid bin Osama bin Laden - the son of Osama bin Laden - on January 1st, 2010 regarding the “imprisonment” of some of his family members in Iran. Secured by “Archangel,” one of the nation’s leading deep undercover researchers and analysts of Arabic language web sites, the letter is addressed to Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and demands the “immediate release of “my family imprisoned in Iran.” [Read more...]

Osama bin Laden audio: “is it live or Memorex?”

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

25 January 2010: The release of a one-minute audio message reportedly from Osama bin Laden obtained and aired on Al-Jazeera TV yesterday has many veteran intelligence insiders both concerned and somewhat at odds with each other about the authenticity and intent of the message.  The message bearing the title “From Osama to Obama” consisted of a voice purporting to be that of bin Laden accompanied by an older image of the top al Qaeda terrorist.  Osama bin Laden addresses US President Obama personally, taking credit for the Christmas day airline bombing attempt by Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab and warning of continued attacks as long as the U.S. continues to support Israel.

While at least one private intelligence agency believes the wording contained in the statement is possibly indicative of an impending attack by al Qaeda, others, including veteran U.S. intelligence contacts closely held by the Northeast Intelligence Network, express doubts that the message is any type of instructional command.

“The message was indeed out of the norm in content and length, and the timing is certainly a concern as is the reference to the Christmas Day bombing attempt,” stated one intelligence source in a telephone interview with this investigator Sunday evening. “We have no doubts whatsoever that Islamic terrorists are engaged in planning attacks against the U.S. domestically and abroad, and that includes continued attempts against U.S. flagged airplanes. But it certainly does not limit attempts against our commercial aircraft, and I would caution everyone to be vigilant not only while flying, but everywhere,” added this source. “We must be careful of tunnel vision, and not become too focused on any single target opportunity.”

When asked if the voice of bin Laden had been authenticated, this source stated that there is disagreement among analysts about the voice being that of bin Laden. “Certainly, it’s possible, but just because it’s possible, that doesn’t make it so.”

Investigators and researchers at the Northeast Intelligence Network are continuing their analysis, while communicating with sources inside the intelligence community. There is a level of distrust with regard to the authenticity of this and previous messages purportedly from bin Laden, especially when the best proof of life (of Osama bin Laden) is in a form that can be easily manipulated. We are not as easily convinced or prepared to state, as other agencies have already stated, that the audio statement “appears to be exactly what it purports to be, an audio message from bin Laden.”

Additional details will be forthcoming.

Text of Osama bin Laden’s statement:

In the name of God the most passionate the most merciful, from Osama to Obama.

“May peace be on those who follow the light of guidance. If our messages to you could be carried by words we wouldn’t have done that by planes. The message I want to convey to you through the plane of the hero, Mujahid Umar al Farouk [referencing Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab] reaffirms a previous message that the heroes of 9/11 conveyed to you and was repeated frequently.

The message is that America will never dream of peace unless we live it in Palestine. It is unfair that you should a safe life while our brothers in Gaza are suffer greatly therefore with God’s will our attacks on you will continue to (as long as you support) Israel. Peace be on those who follow the light of guidance.”

New audio message from Osama bin Laden

13 September 2009: A new audio message purportedly from al Qaeda terror kingpin Osama bin Laden was obtained from an Islamic terrorist web site late Sunday. The as- Sahab branded audio message, titled “[A statement] To the American people”  is approximately 11 minutes long and features the alleged voice of bin Laden warning the U.S. about continued ties with Israel and general criticism of U.S. policy. The audio message also cites Barack Hussein Obama’s speech made in Cairo, Egypt last June, noting that U.S. policy in Afghanistan and Iraq has not changed under Obama due, in part, to his retention of key military officials. Osama bin Laden in Iran?

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

3 April 2009: Over the last two years, I’ve believed that the audio messages purportedly from Osama bin Laden offered no “proof of life” and were altered, pieced together, or were outright fraudulent in nature, despite alleged “authentication” by the CIA and other governmental agencies. I continue to believe that is the case - that the most recent messages from the elusive terror kingpin offer no legitimate proof that he recorded and distributed the messages in the manner the West has been led to believe.

Based on extensive internal investigation and evaluation of those purported messages, I continue to believe that those messages have been deliberately manipulated and the “status” of bin Laden remains in question. One does not need to adhere to any wild conspiracy theories to find answers. Simply look at the current world stage. The evidence should become clear.

Meanwhile, the following is a very interesting excerpt from an article written by Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld, author of FUNDING EVIL: HOW TERRORISM IS FINANCED:

Osama Bin Laden is in Iran, asserts Alan Howell Parrot, the director of The Union for the Conservation of Raptors(UCR), who for many years served as a Falconer for the rulers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and members of Saudi Royal family. In that capacity he was a regular guest in the seasonal Falconry-hunting  camps and had access to all participants. Parrot has been offering evidence of Bin Laden’s sighting in Iran since November 2004 to a great number of U.S. government officials at the Department of Defense, the FBI, Senators and even to the former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Gen. Michael V. Hayden. Government officials who asked to remain nameless confirmed Parrot’s contact with the government. Still, no one responded.

Still, no one responded. (Emphasis added by Northeast Intelligence Network Director Doug Hagmann)

Message from Osama bin Laden

“We have insufficient ‘proof of life’ in all messages attributed to Osama bin Laden over the last two years, despite the verbal references to contemporaneous events. In fact, we have more forensic evidence to the contrary, even if it is merely circumstantial.” –Douglas J. Hagmann, Director, referring to the latest statement allegedly from Osama bin Laden.

By Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

14 January 2008: The Northeast Intelligence Network obtained the complete audio message purportedly from Osama bin Laden that was released on Arabic language web sites earlier today pertaining to the conflict in Gaza. An independent intelligence operative, well known in U.S. intelligence circles as “Archangel” secured the encrypted files containing the audio message, which was presented as an audio file with a still image of bin Laden as a visual overlay. Consistent with previous al Qaeda messages, this message was produced by as Sahab, which is considered the media arm of the Islamic terror group al Qaeda.

The audio is 22 minutes in length and is titled “A Call for Jihad to Stop the Aggression Against Gaza”. The message is one of solidarity with the Muslim Palestinians, and unsurprisingly, calls for solidarity to victory or martyrdom.

Bin Laden: Palestinian issue behind al Qaeda’s war with West [Updated]

by Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

UPDATE: 16 May 2008: As expected, an audiotape message was released overnight by as-Sahab, the media wing of al Qaeda. The message, nine minutes, 40 seconds (09:40) in length, was an audio track purported to be that of Osama bin Laden, accompanied by a stock photo of the terrorist imposed over an image of the al Aqsa mosque of Jerusalem.

The primary focus of the message appeared to be the “Palestinian cause,” with the speaker calling the Palestinian situation the root cause fueling al Qaeda’s war against the West and the 9/11 attacks in the U.S.

To Western nations … this speech is to understand the core reason of the war between our civilization and your civilizations. I mean the Palestinian cause.”

“The Palestinian cause is the major issue for my (Islamic) nation. It was an important element in fueling me from the beginning and the 19 others with a great motive to fight for those subjected to injustice and the oppressed.”

“Sixty years ago, the Israeli state didn’t exist. Instead, it was established on the land of Palestine raped by force. Israelis are occupying invaders whom we should fight.”

The release of the message appeared to be expedited to insure that it coincided with the visit by President Bush to Israel.

As I noted during my appearance on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory last night, suspicion is mounting over the authenticity of the audio. Consistent with messages allegedly released by and featuring Osama bin Laden since late 2001, the latest message offered no “proof of life.” We have seen or heard little proof that bin Laden is still alive, or issuing these audio messages himself.

15 May 2008: ABC News is currently reporting that a “radical jihadist website has announced that a new message from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is forthcoming.” Research performed by the Northeast Intelligence Network investigators indeed confirmed the announcement. We are monitoring various Internet “sites” for the appearance of the message, in which bin Laden will purportedly address Israel’s 60th birthday. Out of all of the audio and video messages allegedly released from bin Laden since 1998, this is one that should immediately garner the attention of our intelligence agencies and military. New Osama bin Laden Audio Message

19 March 2008: A posting today by as-Sahab Productions, the media wing of al Qaeda, features a five minute, three second recorded warning by Osama bin Laden to the European countries that published the controversial cartoons of the Islamic Prophet Mohammed. Bin Laden described the publication of the drawings as a greater crime than Western forces targeting Muslim villages and killing women and children.

The audio track with English subtitles is presented over the above image of bin Laden holding an AK-47 automatic rifle. Its release coincided with the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War.

In addition to being an overt threat against EU member countries, the message contained a cryptically worded statement that the response to the publication of the cartoons will be “what you see, not what you hear.”

Cartoon described as a greater crime than the war deaths of Muslim women and children.Bin Laden’s message also included a direct reference to President George W. Bush, described by bin Laden as Europe’s oppressive ally who is about to depart the White House. Bin Laden stated that the “savage acts” of the US-led military coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan “haven’t ended the war, but rather increased our determination to cling to our right, [to] avenge our people and expel the invaders from our country.”

The following is a complete transcript of the message:

“May our mothers be bereaved of us if we fail to help our prophet”Transcript:

In the name of Allah, the most compassionate, the most merciful.

To the intelligent ones in the European Union:

Peace be upon he who follows guidance.

This talk of mine is to you and concerns the insulting drawings and your negligence in spite of the opportunity presented to take the necessary measures to prevent their being repeated.

To begin, I tell you: hostility between human beings is very old, but the intelligent ones among the nations in all eras have been keen to observe the etiquettes of dispute and the morals of fighting.

This is best for them as conflict is ever changing and war has its ups and downs.

However, you, in your conflict with us, have abandoned many of the morals of fighting in practice, even if you hold aloft its slogans in theory.

How it saddens us that you target our villages with your bombing: those modest mud villages which have collapsed onto our women and children.

You do that intentionally and I am witness to that.

All of this [you do] without right and in conformity with your oppressive ally who - along with his oppressive policies - is about to depart the White House.

And it is no longer hidden from you that these savage acts haven’t ended the war, but rather increase our determination to cling to our right, avenge our people, and expel the invaders from our country. And you know that these massacres are never erased from the memory of the peoples and the effects of this are not hidden.

Although our tragedy in your killing of our women and children is a very great one, it paled when you went overboard in your unbelief and freed yourselves of the etiquettes of dispute and fighting and went to the extent of publishing these insulting drawings. This is the greater and more serious tragedy, and reckoning for it will be more severe.

And I bring your attention to a telling matter, which is that despite your publishing of the insulting drawings, you haven’t seen any reaction from the one and a half billion Muslims, which includes an insult to the Prophet of Allah Jesus, the son of Mary (peace and prayers be upon him).

We believe in all of the Prophets (peace and prayers be upon them), and whoever detracts from or mocks any one of them is an apostate unbeliever.

And here it is worth pointing out that there is no need to use as an excuse the sacredness you accord freedom of expression and the sacredness of your laws and how you won’t change them.

If so, then on what basis were American soldiers exempted from being subject to your laws on your land?

And on what basis do you suppress those who cast doubt on the statistics of a historical event?

In addition, you know that there is one man who can put an end to these drawings, if it mattered to him: the crownless king in Riyadh who ordered your legal institutions to stop their investigations into the embezzlement of billions from the al-Yamamah deal, and Blair carried this out, and he is today your representative in the quartet.

To sum up, then, the laws of men which clash with the legislations of Allah the Most High are null and void, aren’t sacred, and don’t matter to us.

And in addition your practical stance towards the al-Yamamah deal requires you to admit that there are some values which are greater than your values.

In closing, I tell you: if there is no check on the freedom of your words, then let your hearts be open to the freedom of our actions. And it is amazing and to make light of others that you talk about tolerance and peace at a time when your soldiers perpetrate murder even against the weak and oppressed in our countries.

Then came your publishing of these drawings, which came in the framework of a new Crusade in which the Pope of the Vatican has played a large, lengthy role.

And all of that is confirmation on your part of the continuation of the way as well as a testing of the Muslims in their religion: is the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) more beloved to them than themselves and their wealth?

The answer is what you see, not what you hear, and may our mothers be bereaved of us if we fail to help the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

And peace be upon he who follows the guidance.

U.S. intelligence agents reportedly find letters from Osama bin Laden

1 February 2008: According to information circulating in intelligence circles and being reported by some Arab media sources, U.S. intelligence officials recovered at least five letters bearing the signature and official seal of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. The letters, each handwritten in Arabic, were reportedly found mixed with other documents, including bomb-making instructional materials, during a raid on an Islamic compound located in a remote border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan. All of the correspondence was dated last December and each appeared to be addressed to bin Laden followers operating in that area.

One of the letters was reportedly addressed to Mansoor Dadallah, an Islamic terrorist in Helmand, a southern province of Afghanistan. In the letter, Bin Laden reportedly offers condolences to Dadallah for the death of his brother, Mullah Dadallah, a Taliban leader who was killed last year in a US air strike. Following his brother’s death, Mansoor Dadullah appeared on Al-Jazeera television and claimed that he had received a letter from Bin Laden. The letter addressed to Dadullah also urges the Taliban to increase their attacks against NATO troops deployed in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Osama bin Laden video - promo pics “suspect”

Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

UPDATECIA obtains video before official release to target audience;

An unprecedented shutdown of Islamic web sites since US admitted possession of video;

CIA, government analysts attempting to authenticate video.

7 September 2007: The image used to promote the upcoming video message purportedly by Osama bin Laden is considered “suspect,” according to analysts of the Northeast Intelligence Network and federal sources close to this agency speaking on condition of anonymity. The image presented by as Sahab, the media arm of al Qaeda, contains certain characteristics that strongly suggest that the 2007 image of bin Laden sporting a darker beard was done via computer enhancements, not hair dye. Other elements of the image promoting the video are also raising questions and are under analysis.

It appears, however, that the as Sahab image of bin Laden has been deliberately manipulated by computer, possibly in an effort to make the al Qaeda figure appear more robust than in previous footage.

Information obtained by the Northeast Intelligence Network also suggests that the CIA is already in possession of some type of video message from bin Laden where the al Qaeda figure has indeed made contemporaneous references within that video. No further information could be developed through our federal sources, but we are continuing to investigate this matter closely.
